BENGALURU: In a scene straight out of a crime thriller, a trader from Chintamani slit the throat of his love rival and drank his blood, all on video.

The video subsequently went viral spurring police into action.Police arrested Vijay, a 32-year-old trader from Mandyampet for attempt to murder Maresh, a fellow villager in his early 30s on Saturday evening.

Vijay was apparently infuriated by the growing closeness between his wife and Maresh. The attack which was videographed by Vijay's cousin occurred near Siddepalli Cross in Chintamani taluk on June 19.

Maresh survived due to the fact that Vijay used a small knife which could not cause much damage.

Maresh was allegedly getting too close to Vijay's wife and both were constantly chatting on their mobile phones, police said.

Vijay and his family hail from Andhra Pradesh and came to Chintamani 30 years ago.

The family lived in Mandyampet, but moved from village to village and sold everything from edible oil and clothes to vegetables and other essentials.

Maresh owned a Tata Ace vehicle and used to transport goods on a rental basis and Vijay would hire his vehicle.

Maresh allegedly befriended Vijay's wife and both engaged in long phone chats, something which Vijay reportedly objected to.

A couple of times he warned Maresh of dire consequences, but the latter allegedly did not mend his ways.On June 19, Vijay contacted his cousin John Babu, a BCom student.

Vijay asked Babu to engage Maresh for a rental trip from Siddepalli Cross to a nearby farm.

When Maresh arrived with his vehicle, Vijay and Babu took him on their bike on the pretext of showing him the tomatoes which had to be ferried.

However, instead of taking him to the farm, they allegedly took him to a secluded place.According to police, Vijay assaulted Maresh with a small knife, slit his throat and sucked blood from his neck.

He also got Babu to shoot a video of it.

The accused left the scene and Maresh managed to get timely medical help and survived.

Though he refrained from filing a police complaint, Babu's video clip went viral on social media.Jagadisha Reddy, PSI, Kencharlahalli police station, said the hunt is on for Babu.

Strange behaviour: DoctorPsychiatrist Dr Mohan Reddy from Jalappa Medical College, Kolar, said such behaviour among humans is very rare and he had never heard of such incidents.

"When an individual's thirst for revenge peaks, such behaviour can be expected, but it is quite unimaginable," he added.WatchVIDEO: Karnataka man slits friend's throat, drinks blood for 'getting too close' to his wife
